Words with one repeated letter (696)

Repeated letters are the most common reason solid players run out of guesses. A standard solver flow assumes each unknown letter is new — when an answer doubles up, that flow stalls.

Words with two pairs or a triple (58)

Even rarer, even harder. These almost always require a deliberate pivot once you suspect a repeat.

Answers using rare letters (469)

Q, J, Z, X, K, and V appear in roughly 20% of answers. Standard openers don't test these, so when one shows up you're starting from zero.

Answers without standard vowels (12)

Words like CRYPT and NYMPH use Y in place of a vowel. They're extraordinarily rare — but they end streaks at a much higher rate than their numbers suggest.

How to defend against the hard ones

• If your fourth guess narrowed candidates to 2–3 words and they differ only in one position, consider whether a doubled letter is possible — re-examine your yellow tiles.
• Save Y as a "vowel substitute" tester for the rare consonant-only words.
• When your guesses are stalling and the candidate list isn't shrinking, pivot to a scout guess that tests one of the rare letters.
